What do I do when my account is locked out?


If you get an error when logging in that says, "The referenced account is locked out and may not be logged on to," there are a few things you can do.  This is caused by eight repeated, incorrect logins to an account.  This is common if someone forgets his or her password and enters it incorrectly.

 

How to resolve this

  • Verify you're entering your password correctly, especially if you've changed it recently.
  • If you have a mobile device that checks your email, make sure you have updated the device with your new password.
  • Wait 30 minutes from the time of the last unsuccessful login.  Locked accounts will unlock themselves after 30 minutes.
  • Contact the helpdesk to have the account unlocked.  If you have forgotten your password, the helpdesk can reset it for you.
