How do I recover a deleted file/folder on the L drive?

Depending on when and where a file was deleted from, it may be easy to recover the file if you let the helpdesk know as soon as possible.

  • If the file was deleted from a network folder, such as a folder on the L drive or your J drive, you will need to submit a support request with the file's last known location. If the file was deleted recently—within the last day or two—the helpdesk may be able to recover the file easily.

  • If the file has been gone for more than two weeks, we will need to recover the file from tape backup, which can be a time-consuming process.  Again, please submit a support request with the file's last known location.

  • If the file was deleted from a folder on your local computer, such as your desktop, check the recycle bin first. If the file is not in the recycle bin, the next place to check should be your backup. You have a backup of your data, right? If you don’t have a backup, you will need to use recovery software to try and recover the data yourself. Use a program such as Recuva to try recovering the file.
